Potty Training

I get asked about this all the time from parents of both birth children and adopted children. Here is what worked for us.

First, I waited until my daughter seemed interested in learning about the potty. I let her take the lead and I did not attempt to potty train until she was ready. I made sure she knew how to put her pull up down and up, so we practiced that a few times. I bought a little tape called "Once Upon a Potty" for girls (and they have a boys’ version also). We watched it several times and then I put a potty just like the one in the video in front of our television. She sat on it to watch her potty video. While watching the video, she used the potty and she was thrilled! That was it! She was trained. Within a few days she didn’t want to use the potty chair anymore, she wanted to just use the toilet so I bought one of those Elmo inserts that go on the toilets so little kids won’t fall in when they are sitting. I’m all about making life as stress-free as possible!
